Sloan Urry was born in Salt Lake City on August 2, 1992. A self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie, he caught the racing bug in his teens while watching sports car racing and open wheel racing. He competed in his first race in 2010, finishing 4th in the MPRA Mustang Series at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, behind the wheel of a Mustang FR500S—an amazing accomplishment, considering he had no previous karting experience or race training. After that, he was hooked!
In 2011, Sloan made the decision to devote himself to the sport full time, leaving Park City and his studies at the University of Utah for an opportunity to race Porsche Cup cars with the TruSpeed team in Huntington Beach, California. The move proved to be a successful one, as he finished 3rd overall at the 2011 Porsche Pirelli Driver’s Cup Championship, piloting a 2009 GT3 Cup car. More podium visits followed in the GT3, including a 1st place finish with his co-driver in the 2011 Tribute to LeMans at the California Speedway. Sloan finished off 2011 strong, with his team placing 2nd at the 2011 USAF NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill race. Sloan says the long-endurance race was his favorite racing experience to date, “I have never done anything so exhausting, but it was all worth it when we reached the checkered flag in second place, overall.”
In 2012, Sloan will compete in a 2011 GT3 Cup car in the Platinum Cup class of the IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama, a race that is widely recognized as one of the most competitive one-make car series in the country.
In 2013 Sloan completed a full season in the GT3 Cup Challenge, finishing second in Championship points with 8 podium finishes, including wins at The Baltimore Grand Prix and the final round at Petit Le Mans. In impressive fashion, Sloan has 38 professional races under his belt and has claimed a podium finish 13 times, or 34%.
Sloan’s long-term sights are set on becoming an accomplished professional driver. He attributes his success to passion, persistence, a competitive nature and a supportive family, “My biggest inspiration comes from my father. He has shown me that if you set your mind to something, you can accomplish anything.”
Sloan lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. Professionally, he is Driver for JDX Racing. Founded in 2008, JDX Racing is based out of Denver Colorado. When he’s not at the racetrack, Sloan enjoys rock climbing, skiing, traveling and spending time with friends and family. But he is most content when he’s on the track, “I love everything about racing, from the sounds and smells of the cars to the head-to-head competition. It’s definitely my favorite way to get my fix!” Source.
